Three minutes with Salvia Divinorum

by Three minutes with Salvia Divinorum
(grace, from Saskatoon, SK, Canada)

My first encounter with Salvia Divinorum was unlike anything I've experienced before. I have tried acid, mushrooms and some very intense truffles but Salvia took me to another place altogether.

I went in to it with no expectations or preconceived notions of what it would be like. I purchased dried leaves from a smoke shop, 20X in strength, with the people there informing us that only a small amount was sufficient to get truly blasted. They weren't lying.

It was a fairly bright night and I was outside with the person I trust the most, my boyfriend who acted as my sitter. I packed a large pinch into a small pipe, lit up and did my best to inhale and hold it in before exhaling. It was quite a shock to the lungs, even though I am a smoker, I found the smell and taste quite strong. Similar to heavily steeped mint tea that has gone bad.

My boyfriend took the pipe off me and the last thing I remember saying to him was "It's started" as I looked down at my hands. They were vibrating and distorted and as soon as the words left my mouth, I was gone.

Unfortunately, I can't remember everything that happened in the 3 minutes I was tripping but I can recall the main things I saw and felt.

I honestly believe I connected with other dimensions. Everything I could see was happening to the left of me. Each dimension or reality I saw was presented in two-dimensional strips, kind of like thick pieces of paper pressed together. As the pages turned or rolled, I also felt like I was physically turning and rolling with each strip entering into one of these dimensions. This process was strangely familiar as though I had done it many times before. As I entered each reality, I truly felt I belonged there, as though I had always been there. I encountered people but I cannot recall their faces, only that they were rather comical and animated and they seemed to know me. It became a little frightening as I was pulled from each dimension rather abruptly and I felt it wasn't going to stop. Briefly, I didn't know where I was meant to be. I looked to the right of me and I could make out my boyfriend's face and I heard someone telling me, "This is it, this is where you're supposed to be." And with that, I came back. It took a few more minutes before my normal state-of-mind returned. The only side affect was that I couldn't stop smiling because I had experienced something truly special.

My boyfriend informed me that throughout the trip I was mumbling incoherently and he assisted me in silence as I laid down and got back up several times. I had no sense whatsoever of what was happening to my body.

I honestly felt that for a brief moment, the fabric that veils this reality from the next was lifted and I got a glimpse of what exists beyond this world, this life, this time.
