Ololiuqui, Ipomea Violacea, Morning Glory, Heavenly Blue

... this is an incredible group of vines that native cultures, like the Aztecs, Mayans, Zapotecs and Mazatecs have used in chamanic rituals.

***We should also include the Hawaiian Baby Woodrose in this family; however, as its LSA concentration is considerably higher, it deserves its own page.

This entheogen is found in mountainous zones across North America and Mexico (although different varieties can be found in Central America, specially in Peru);

So there is a variety of strains, some without any LSA content, and some with different concentrations.

To use Ipomeas with entheogenic purposes, the Morning Glory / Heavenly Blue strain should be used as they have the highest alkaloid (LSA) conentration:

Take a look at the picture on the right... remember that color. You may find pink or purple flowers, they are great for decoration, but you will only get diarrhea if you use them

Eventhough all parts of the Morning Glory / Heavenly Blue vine contain alkaloids, only use the seeds... leaves, flowers and stems can cause a very uncomfortable toxic reaction in the body. The seeds can be chewed or powdered and made into an Ipomea Violacea psychedelic tea, with very interesting effects.

____________
Now,
a little about LSA
____________

LSA stands for D-lysergic Acid Amide --- this is an Alkaloid that is very similar chemically to LSD, or Lysergic Acid Diethylamide...

Also, the effects of LSA resemble those of LSD: in the correct set and setting, it is a very insightful and revelatory experience.

Where I live, Ipomeas grow wild everywhere in the rainy season, so when it stops raining and the vines dry out, I walk around the city collecting seeds...

Unfortunately, most of the Ipomeas I find are either purple or pink, making them useless for ingestion.

The good news is, Morning Glory Seeds are very cheap, you can actually get hundreds of these here

________
DOSAGE
________
As with any entheogen, dosage vary depending on the individual's sensibility to the substance, and the concentration of alkaloids in the seeds... A good starting dose is 100 seeds, and gradually increase it, up to 200 or 300 hundred seeds for a heavy dose.

_________
EFFECTS
_________
Last week, I ordered a bag of seeds and prepared my psychedelic tea with about 300 seeds: (For a great step-by-step guide on how to prepare the Morning Glory Seeds go here.)

I sipped the tea for about 30 minutes and I spent the next hour reading and waiting until I started noticing the first effects: I felt a light uplift on my mood which kept increasing each minute.

I really don't remember how or when I got to the peak, but suddenly I found myself full of an amazing and indescribable "happy glow" and surrounded by some beautiful colored visual patterns, both open-eyed and closed-eyed... The Heavenly Blue Ipomea Violacea was taking over!

Pure intensity running through my veins, a smile that wouldn't go away, and a rush of ideas and answers to shadowy parts of my being...

These legal highs can b great for social experiences if you know how to ride these seeds: conversations turn into fairy tales, dancing into ego melting and thinking dissolves into the essence, the silence that fills it all.

The strong psychedelic effects lasted for about 4 or 5 hours and a progressive, pleasant comedown followed...

I have to say that I was expecting some serious stomachache or vomiting every time I ingested the seeds (almost every trip report on the net about Ipomea Violacea starts with a stomachache) but I didn't have any ache or pain of any kind, just a mild diarrhea the next day.
